ANALYSIS: Just as he was in his first game with Paramus Catholic in 2016, new Don Bosco Prep head coach Dan Sabella will be tested right out of the gate against a national power as his Ironmen will take on California's St. John Bosco in Week 0.

Three years ago, Sabella led Paramus Catholic to a season-opening 38-20 win over St. Frances (Md.) -- the same team St. Joseph (Mont.) will be seeing in late September this year. Things turned out well for PC and Sabella that year, as the Paladins went on to win the Non-Public Group 4 title.

Following Don Bosco's trip out west, things won't get any easier when Washington D.C. power Gonzaga comes to Ramsey in Week 1. Gonzaga beat Don Bosco, 37-7, last season and finished ranked No. 23 in MaxPreps' XCellent 25 poll at season's end.

After a Week 2 bye and Week 3 home contest against West Orange, Don Bosco Prep's in-state schedule really gets cooking, beginning with another installment of the Bergen Catholic-Don Bosco rivalry on Sept. 27. Bergen Catholic beat Don Bosco twice last year, including once in the Non-Public Group 4 semifinals.

In another one of the best rivalries in North Jersey, Don Bosco Prep will travel to Montvale on Oct. 19 to take on reigning Non-Public Group 4 champion St. Joseph before closing out the regular season with two home games against DePaul and Paramus Catholic.

Don Bosco Prep went 2-3 against North Jersey's 'Big 6' during the regular season last year, but were competitive in losses to Bergen Catholic (14-13) and St. Peter's Prep (26-23 in OT).
